Which Spot Meter Do You Use

I originally posted that I had the sekonic L858D, but shortly after this I bought a Pentax Digital Spot meter and a Reveni Labs Mk2 and sold my Sekonic L858D. For me the Sekonic had to much button pressing and settings I never used.
I also took the PMM metering course run by Nick Carver for both the spot meter and the Reveni Labs meter.
For me it has made metering so much more easier and consistent. I also own a Sekonic 308 and a Sekonic L398a.

I have not tried the PMM mode but use it in single sample mode and use a "home made" calculator which also acts as a thinking aid....I have had this one for a very long time and it's still a shock to me when I realise I still haven't lost it "in the field". The reason I have gone back to the Reveni spot meter is I want to think in EV and then formulate the exposure, as it is the way have always done with a Minolta F...which has now ceased to function !

Hi John I like the PMM mode but I also use that method on digital Pentax meter, I have a sticker on the meter that shows light values in Ev's. It all makes sense when you take Nick's course.

I will definitely check it out at some point - Thanks

I don't know if I've turned over two pages in the script, but what the hell is "PMM mode"?

Looks to me like the zones are named but not much different from a standard zone type thing. But if it works for people then why not. I have been doing it via EV and assigning zones since I first got a meter (apart from the period where I had a sekonic).

Likely I will stick with the method I am used to. I can recommend the Reveni mind - very nice little meter from my experience.

My problem John was remembering those pesky Roman numerals , the PMM way you only need to know EV values that fall in to a named zone. I just find it easier to work this way. But agree if you have been using the zone system then why change if it works for you.

I agree , if it works don't fix it ! Do whatever means the process is second nature and there will be less mistakes ( I've made a few mind ! )

Good morning,

I have the Sekonic L858D , I am very satisfied, excellent light meter!
Nat

Nat I agree with you, but it had so much in the meter that I never used, so to me was overkill for my needs, but yes a very capable meter.
