I really like this, especially the grass growing out of the top!
I hope the regulars her make comments, though they do seem rather pre-occupied at the moment with 100 year old cameras with missing double-indirect- thorcus adjustment screws ...

Thank you Alan. I find the double-indirect-thorcus adjustment screw to be a source of the most finite distraction, but I am authoritatively assured that it is just passing phase. Yes, it's a splendid place that I have driven past many times over the last six years and finally managed to visit with my new camera.

Perhaps you can do some work even closer - details of the stonework perhaps. I find that 5x4 is excellent for that sort of thing.

I hope to revisit, it was my first trip out with a 5x4 so still finding my way.

Are you saying you have a source of double-indirect-thorcus adjustment screws Alan?

Many here are looking for a supply! ;)

Mike

I'd like to see a much lighter version of the image, that would bing out the details in the grasses and also the stonework.

Yes I've got a few, that were left over when they built the Transporter bridge in Middlesbrough. Best quality Abyssinian bronze with high modulus undercut star points. How many do you want?

Fair point Ian , I am tray developing at the moment and scanning with a DSLR so my control is somewhat limited. Zebra tank is my current thinking and then build a scanning rig that gives me better control. Bear in mind as well , it’s Foma 100 so it’s going to be a bit blocked one end or tother so I totally get what you are saying.

Foma 100 & 200 are great once you've realised you need to shoot at half box speed and about 2/3 to 3/4 the development time of most other films. I shot a lot of it in Turkey, Greece, and Southern Spain, and it handles well.

I was thinking more like this:

Thank you , noted. I couldn’t find a recommendation for development in my replenished D 23 so I settled on 8 mins . I do like your version and I like the enhancement it makes to the foreground but it doesn’t reflect the conditions that I was taking the photograph in, that veracity at the end of the day is more important to me than interpretation if that makes sense ?

I think Ian's interpretation is a bit pale. And it makes Jevon's original photo look slightly dark.

How are you developing your sheet film Jevon?

Ilford/Harman used to have a reference image for their Harman lab service. I have it somewhere, it's very useful as it shows a full range B&W and Colour scale, with an image. Ilford recommended adjusting uncalibrated monitors so that you saw the complete B&W scale correctly, as well as any colour adjustments.

Re-interpreting the original Image I would just say the tonality is strange, but as Jevon has said he had no dev time for Foma 100, and an early 5x4 image.

When I first started with 5x4 I used an open tray in the darkroom. I tried developing several sheets using the shuffle method. But I couldn't make it work. Then I hit on the idea of using a 10 x 8 tray with plastic rawlplugs glued to it, like mini fence posts to divide the tray into four divisions. That allowed me to develop four sheets of film without them touching or sliding over each other. I used this method for several years before finally buying a Paterson orbital.

Yes I will be buying a Stearman or a Zebra as soon as funding permits! Although your method sounds ingenious.
