Can anyone find a lens board for a Tachihara 8X10 field camera with a copal 3 hole in it?
Preferably in the uk.
I have no idea what the leading dimensions are but am told Toyo boards may work.

I have finished the internet twice now and have failed to find one.

I just measured the aperture for the board which is circa 140mm x 140mm. What I don't know is what the cross section should look like.

It's very likely the same as a Wista 10x8 Lens board, which is the same size. A Toyo View board is 157mm x 157mm and like ab=n oversized Pacemaker Graphic lens board.

Should be simple to make one. Two bits of thin ply laminated. The top is larger, the hole on the bottom one needs the mounting hole larger to allow for the retaining ring, unless the lens has a flange.

The lens board you need is the same as a Sinar 140x140mm fit. Tachihara and Wista 10x8 cameras both use Sinar boards. I have both. Toyo won't fit, as Ian mentioned. I've ordered mine from eBay sellers in China who can also custom drill whichever hole size you need.

Have a look here or e mail them

The Intrepid boards are nicely made but are of flat profile. I could measure the size accurately later as soon as I find my callipers.

The intrepid board is just shy of 140mm x 140mm at 139mm x 139mm and 4mm think with slightly rounded corners. It is a tight but perfect fit in the Intrepid. The 4mm thickness may prove a problem for other Sinar panel cameras?

I think the issue with Intrepid boards is although they are nominally Sinar-sized, they're not actually Sinar compatible so might not work on other cameras that are designed to work with Sinar boards - helpfully.

Luckily you can't move for actual Sinar and compatible boards ebay so no need to mess with the Intrepid boards.

A Sinar board has a lip so while it's probably 2mm Aluminium with the lip it's effectively thicker so can be mounted on a Wista or Tachihara.

An Intrepid or Wista/Tachihara board will not fit a Sinar.

It just happens that my 12"x10" field camera 6½" x ½" lens boards are the virtually same size as the large Toyo View boards, I have one with a 360mm Apo Roar riveted to it. So I made an adapter board to allow the 6½" x ½" lens boards (I made more) to fit my 10x8 Agfa Ansco cameras. The Toyo board is

For comparison, the this rough wooden board is made from some scrap 4mm ply to test mount a lens for @AnalogueWendy a couple of years ago. Using 4mm ply it's easy to make an adapter to use your 5x4 lenses on the 10x8.

It may be worth looking for a converter board from140mm Tachihara to Linhof/Wista/etc 96mm type as they are the most common and available often well made too. Keep an eye out as they sometimes come up at very reasonable value , otherwise they can be expensive, actually you can sometimes get one free with a lens if you are prepared to buy one from Japan , shipping is usually very quick around 4/5 days is typical

I looked up the converter board I got from China , around £27 shipped took about 10 days via eBay
Description
“Metal Lens Board Conversion Adapter For Sinar 140X140mm to Linhof Technika 99X96” seller is superelectric
It’s the stepped type 2mm/2mm aluminium with steel sliding catch and lower holder , it fits my Intrepid mk1 810 just as well as the non stepped 4mm original adapter plate which is 3D printed, the only minor criticism is that the steel parts are sharp edged and need a file drawing over them , otherwise something that is needed for most of them is some lecture or mail polish on the slider screws to avoid them going loose and getting lost.
Alternatively 4mm board material and a 64mm hole saw - if you have access to the tools, stepped boards are best made from laminated plates if diy .

I'm back.

Do I need the stepped type or will the standard Sinar boards be light tight?

You have the camera , as far as I can tell nobody else has one on this forum , from pictures it looks like you need a stepped board , likely with a 2mm front so it fits under the locking bars .

Thanks.
The camera appears to be light tight with a Sinar board.
I feel this may be more luck than judgement as Sinar boards are flat not stepped.

If I could find a uk supplier for Japanese cherry wood I could make my own.

Perhaps I should give up with large format photography and turn my hand to the wheel of the potter or perhaps Macrame' or even basket weaving?

Just as a thought.
The Sinar style boards have a slot running around the 140mm periphery.
Maybe self adhesive foam rubber as a compression face would work.

Please post a picture of the front standard of your 10x8 camera. Ignore the slot on the Sinar boards, I've never had to use foam in the slots. The board sits flat.
