Has anyone used the Kaiser reel as a-pose to the Paterson reel.
Just looking at the film guide rail, I was wondering if it makes loading the film any easier.

Having used the Paterson system since Version II ( 1959 I think) and the Johnson Universal tank and never had a serious problem with them I heve never seen the need to change but the Kaiser reel Ian has pictured looks interesting - two big lumps of plastic to rub on the emulsion during loading has got to be an improvement - hasn't it? ;)

It looks very similar to the AP spool. I've not had any problems with the guides scratching the film on the AP, however what I have found is that (mainly with 35mm) it is often necessary to manually ease the film around them after it has completed one circuit.
Initial loading is easier than on my (very old, ca 1954) Paterson especially for tightly curled films, particularly 127, where it is hard to get both corners engaged simultaneously.
The other advantage of the AP over the old Paterson is that the lined-up location of the entrance slots is at one end of the movement range rather than in the middle.

Thanks James. I saw it on ebay and it looked interesting but when I went back, someone had beat me to it and bought it. Will look out for another one.

I've only used that style reel for 35mm, but it sure makes loading 35mm much easier, IMO.
