Yes Vuescan will download the drivers for your Nikon, it is not free £around £50.00 however a bargain compared to Silverfast. There is a learning curve using Vuescan and his user instructions are not very intuitive, Ian (Barber) has one of the best user videos for Vuescan https://www.digitalblackandwhite.co.uk/vuescan-scanning-black-white-video-tutorial
 
Martin, thanks for the help and advice. I've been looking at some information online. The free version doesn't have all the features of the Professional version apparently. But if it lets you scan film I should be able to see if I like the results better than the results I get from the V700, then make a decision about buying it.

I would be very surprised if the v700 produces scan like your dedicated Nikon scanner, I get superb scans from my Nikon with VS, I could be wrong but the free version of VueScan does not have the ability to lock the film base exposure which is really useful for getting the black point correct, anyway see how you get on with it.
 
Alan, I use SilverFast but I've upgraded it for free a few time since buying my V750 scanner 5 or 6 years ago. Sometimes I prefer the Epson software with certain negatives.

I have just installed the free version of Viewscan, and the Nikon scanner, and will give them a try.
