I have a Lomography Instax wide film back for my 4x5 cameras, I use it on my MPP Micro Tech and my Intrepid, mainly for testing compositions and any other things that crop up, or if I repair something. I also have a Rittreck 5x7 camera with a 4x5 film back on it. It all works great, but one thing is missing on this camera's film back, it is a Graflok locking mechanism, so last week I had an idea to see if I could make one and 3d print it for said back.
I am by no means an experienced user of CAD software, I tought myself during Covid lockdown the basics and how to use it. I have been 3d printing since they first came out, I started with a cheap Chinese one then bought a Prusa Mk3s, it has the MMU3 on it but I dont use that much.
Anyway after spending a week designing and testing out numerous test prints I have finally got a good working Graflok film back for my Rittreck Camera.
When using the lomo film back if you have not seen one in use is that you need a spacer in between the ground glass to get perfect focus. The lomo film plane is setback inside the holder so you need to insert the spcer to get correct focus. Then once focus is set remove it and the ground glass so you can fit the instax wide lomo film back with the Graflok sliding locks.
So what I have done is made the spacer and the ground glass one unit so I can just do one operation to focus again after the first shot.
It is all made out of ABS filament, with some 4mm and 1mm deep light seals, and self tapping screws. The film back was to big for my heated bed so I split in to two parts then glued them together.
I can also now use my Grafmatic 6 shot film holders now with this setup.
Just done a test shot and I am very pleased with the outcome, I shot my neighbours house over the road, he has a no parking sign on his gates about 200mm square, its about 50-60 yards away and with a magnifying glass you can just read the text on it from my shot.
Just goes to show if you dont try things you never learn, I am sure there is a film back with Grafloks for my Rittreck but I could not find one anywhere thats why i made one.
