Hi folks,

I finally got around to do my usual test shoot with a subject and strobes with 5x7. Different background and lighting position but essentially the same.

I rated foma 100 at ei50. Developed in adox xt-3 1+1.

I’ve a few questions from looking at the negative:

• it’s known and also to my findings with foma 200 that you should rate foma at half speed. With foma 100 should you still reduce development by 20% to compensate? The neg seems on the thin side compared to the foma 200.

• on the top corners I’m getting black outlines. I have no clue what it could be. They are on both frames. This is normally the masking area from the film holder and it is normally clear. Thoughts? I used fidelity elite 5x7 holders. I developed in a Paterson orbital tray and modded with silicone and adhesive on the bottom.

Here is a picture on light box of 5x7 frames and a random shoot test using 4x5 back on sinar.

The dark corners on the Foma 100 is fogging from the film holders.

It may be that the hinge tape is wearing thin.

I can't comment on the development since i use PMK for my Foma 100 in 5x4 and 5x7.

The dark corners could be from the film holders but I'm also curious about any potential light leak from the paterson orbital?

The light leaks don't look altogether regular and I'm wondering if it's possible for the lid to perhaps be not completely flush?
But I have no experience with this set up so maybe others could comment on the likelihood.

Personally, I wouldn't reduce the development time to begin with and go from there. This is simply because I use a diffuser enlarger and I'm often grateful with a bit more contrast.

Thanks @MartyNL and @mpirie. I’m recovering wrong from the vorovirus so energy levels are all over the place. I’ll have to do more tests with that film holder.

On the time for foma I’ll wait for more input.

Cheers

Hi Marty,

If it was a light leak from the lid of the Orbital not being seated properly, the fogging would not be so distinct....ie, the fogging would be all over including the edges/rebate.
