5x7 negatives

I use the glassine paper envelopes and I’ve had no problems. I pack, them with the emulsion away from the glued seam, although I don’t know if this males any difference. Easy to write on. Comparatively cheap. Others seem to be much more fastidious.

Glassine for me. 2 negatives per sheet.

Macodirect is a good source.

I use Secol sleeves. A bit pricey, but very good. These are stored in Adox Adofile clam shell folders.

Thank everyone, I will see what is available from UK sources.
Perhaps ag-photographic or Firstcall might have something suitable.

Both Nik & Trick and Morco (both forum sponsors) list film storage, but I haven’t checked sizes.

I use the PrintFile sleeves, I bought mine in Calgary while visiting Canada, each page takes 2 7x5 negatives.

Got those as well, work fine for me. The benefit of these is that you can do a rough scan whilst they are still in the pockets.

International Postage/Shipping from the US has gone through the roof, it's not quite so bad the other way, but all International shipping/postage has gone up significantly.

I sold some rare French 5x4 DDS Film holder, shipping to France was over £30, had it been a UK buyer the postage would have been £2.95.

Ebay & Amazon now handle their own International shipping, this can take a little longer but is very significantly cheaper for them. So I've sold items on eBay to a number of different countries, and I post them to their Global Shipping Proramme addres here in the UK. While the Proramme has been around for 10 years I hadn't heard of it until the end of last year.

Similarly I bought something from Amazon, free postge, and it came from Califoria, tracking shoed quick despatch and then held for 10 days before, shipping from the US to the UK, once in the UK delivery was fast.

So we have a dilemma buying from abroad as the shipping can be more than an items worth.

That's why I also included the Printfile links. Assuming they sell internationally, a buyer could look locally in their country for its distribution and sale.

Printfile negative sleeveare available here the issue is 7x5 is not a very common format as no cameras were made here. Although there were Half palte vameras from Kodak, Gandolfi, & De Vere. By the time I began working commercially in 1976 you either shot 5x4, or 10x8, there was no film format available here in between.

The major issue here is there are almost no second-hand 7x5 DDS available here in the UK, and what fewdo appear are very expensive. I bought mine from the US when postage was low.

So from the point of view of a dealer/shop her sales of the 7x5 size Printfile sleves would be low. A quick search on eBay and they are all from the US, £8 a pack is average then £24 postage. UK prices for other sizes are double those in the US.

The reality is if I needed more I'd ask my nephew to buy them for me in The Camera Store in Calgary and bring them on his next trip to visit his family.

It’s off the topic of neg sleeves, but I was offered a 5x7 De Vere monorail, some time ago. It wasn’t what I wanted, so I’ve no idea where it went.

It would have been a Half Plate De Vere, I had the larger Whole Plate De Vere Monorail with Half Plate and 5x4 backs as well. Heavy cameras. Of course they had International bail backs and so could take 7x5, Half plate and 13x18 plate or film holders.

PEL sell 7x5 Printfile sleeves for £23.90 for a pack of 100 sheets whichis good value for money and matches US prices. I was told about the company last night.

Yes, built like a tank. Not as nicely made as the enlargers. There was a 5x4 back included. Although in working condition, it needed a good deal of cleaning up, which I wasn’t keen on at the time.

My old De Vere 54a enlarger was the same build qualiy as the monorail cameras, it used a bicycle brake blockbbc to lock the column. Mine had the anti-vibration Nany frame. Ironically the first thing I did was take the enlarger off the frame and turn it into a horizontal enlarger. Then I attached my De Vere monorail camera to the enlarger column mechanism as a copy camera.
