Street portraits from last Sunday, Darlot lens on 10x8 Sinar with a shutter behind the lens as close as I could get it but it's still vignetting. Notice the sweet spot of focus and rapid fall off. Most likely a projector lens, fixed f4 aperture. Very old FP4 (no expiry date on the box), ISO25, developed in HC110 1+31. The last of this film.

Also some very nice results but perhaps with some caveats especially the group shot shows some limitations, I think.

Where I said the Heliar background melts I think here the background dissolves.
I'm very curious how it will do on 5x7 and not only for the heavy vignet.

Oh I like, I like, I like , I like. It vignettes but man the subject then the fall off o_O

What focal length is this? The centre is insanely sharp. It pops compared to the 360mm heliar you posted.

The 'pop' may have more to do with the f4 aperture, while the 36cm Heliar was stopped down by around a couple of stops.

The sharpness of the Darlot may be the result of the lens having a petzval design but Nas will have to confirm the lens construction.

My calculations say the lens is 300mm. There are no markings, only the makers name handwritten around the rear element. I think it’s a Petzval design but I haven’t completely dismantled it because everything is quite tightly screwed together.

On Individual portraits I think the vignetting actually adds Caracter to the images. I end up vignetting around 70% of my black white images in post so I'm biased  Love the rapid fall off - great images, full of character: perfection to my mind is not the goal in any photography, digital, film, large or small format - the goal is beauty in an image that arrests the attention of the viewer. Those individual portraits do that.
