Spent ages yesterday trying to remove a Lensboard ring from a Technika board for 180mm Schneider lens/copal 1 to be replaced with required correct new larger board ... Tried the WD40. wait a couple of hours....spanner way ...nope ....no go......
Left it 'til morning.
Early morning inspiration!! ........Grasped the front lens and shutter with the right hand and the lensboard with the left...turned opposite directions and the board came loose..
Mmmm . A plastic ring removeable from board..
.Now have a Technika board with threaded metal ring still attached and unable remove... but shutter/lens free...Phew!

Your Technika board should fit the Interpid, unless its from a very early model. The Chinese retaining rings are cheap and well-made.

#0 & #1 retaining rings for rimset shutters. Some of the #0 are used, I think I have some #00 as well.

Evening Ian.....No..it does not fit the Intrepid..its a smaller lensboard.. Got a new one coming and a ring.
Thanks for the headup....

Those little Linhof lens boards sell for good money as they are hard to find, they fit the 6x9 Linhof cameras. A decent metal Linhof/Wista lens board start at £7 new.

The board I have still has the irremovable ring on it so not sure whether it would sell anyway....

Unless someone did something silly like use thread locking compound or other adhesives, stubborn metal fittings can sometimes be loosened by first trying to slight tighten them and then attempting to loosen.

Also, it is sometimes possible to get things going by first placing the whole business in freezer for an hour or so on the theory that cold contracts the metal.

Ref the freezer..yes..I was going to do that today.
Failing that, it may come to vice, screwdriver and hammer

A hair dryer works best as the metal is of a soft type, so just heat up the ring.

.. I will give it ago. I actually considered putting it on the glass hob on a low heat...might come to that yet

Or in a pan and boil it up! I have just had to saw a flange off a TT&H MAR (Medium Angle Rectilinear) lens because it was never going to release any other way. - not enough purchase available as it was a recessed flange and insufficient lens body protruded. It was solid!. If TT&H hadn't used 'standard' RPS threads this would have been a bigger problem than it is. Flanges are still available new fortunately.

Good to hear. What was the magic that finally made the ring release?
WD40 left overnight in a warm room. I used the ring spanner and twisted the shutter in the opposite direction and it moved quite easily...
I fully expected it to stay right where it was!..............butsuccess....

'Glad to hear that this worked. I'd recommend a thorough cleaning of the areas hit with WD-40. Ethanol or Isopropyl alcohol should do the trick. WD-40 leaves a residue behind that , if left in place, will become an attractor for dirt and grit.

The trick is drops of WD-40 (original paraffin based) diluted in Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol, that penetrates very fine threads.

That's a sterling idea. I'll have to try that in the future.

I recently bought a nikkor 90mm sw f8 and I had a similar experience. The retaining ring was so tight it bent wrench. Got it off and found what looks a very hard and piece of circular card. Could be a shim not sure. Either way I changed the lens board to wista and is all good.

Glad you sorted it out.
