Hello. I have a Schneider 135 mm lens for my 4x5 camera. It hasn’t been used since the 70’s.

I. Ow have time and want to get it going again.

It sounds ok as I go through the speeds.

But I would like to get it tested to be sure of the accuracy and reproducibility.

No point sweating all the other variables if you don’t have confidence in the shutter!

Can anyone recommend a source for testing / calibration / repair in the UK?

What does a “tested” lens cost?

Does anyone have one to sell?

Quite a few for sale on EBAY @ Japanese dealers...but check each on their feedbacks...if its a low feedback number ignore them....

I looked at those but I prefer to buy from a person in the UK if I can first. I don’t trust eBay or Facebook. Too much rubbish.

There are phone apps you can get which at a basic level will give you an idea about whether or not it's consistent and/or accurate. You can also build a shutter speed tester with various electronics and whatnot but given you can try your phone for free as a starting point I'd just go with that. The free one I have is this one for iOS:

I would test first then worry about getting it serviced, if required later. I don't think many dealers or sellers will actually test shutters. They might run through the speeds when it arrives with them by ear, but then it'll probably sit on a shelf for weeks/months/years.

I have had many cameras and lenses serviced and repaired with John at Black on White Cameras in Bristol. He has serviced all my large and medium format lenses.......and he is a really nice and very helpful guy.
I believe he has now retired, but is happy to continue looking at film based cameras and lenses

I thought he retired but given his website is still online, is hopefully a positive sign.. :)
