How would I print an image to fit say an 8x10 sheet of paper?

I have an image in Photoshop & want it to fit the entire 8x10 sheet of paper. Instead, it doesn't fit the entire sheet when printed. There is a lot of room say above the image & below it. I've adjusted sizes in the print command & cannot print the whole image to fit the paper. Any ideas, thanks in advance. :)

You use the Crop tool, you can choose various measuring option s Pixels, cm, MM, inches. Picas. Points. I'd crop by Pixels. crop to the 10x8 ratio/

In the Printer Dialog you can also alter the print size usually by various factors. It's really easy. I've not been making digital prints very long, as I only started in 1994.

All the printer software I've used, HP. Canon. Epson has had the option fit to page, and you can choose non standard sizes as well.

Open the image in Photoshop.
Select the crop tool and set the ratio to 4:5 (8:10). Default is portrait which is what you want.
Crop as necessary.
Go to print dialog. Under print settings choose your paper, presumably Letter or A4. Hit print preview if you have the option.
Make sure layout is set to portrait.
Scroll down to position and size and select 'Scale to fit media'.
Hit print button.
You should now have a preview showing exactly what you will get - hit the print icon and sit back...

When I print at work with the default 'fit to page' option ticked the (stupid) computer fits to width instead, cropping off the top & bottom automatically. If I'd wanted that I'g go for fit width, which is usually an option.
So far I must have print dozens of shots for my wife's courses, that have had to be printed again...

Almost invariably when printing a cropped version for myself it's not just the exact centre that's wanted, so manually cropping in software is the way to go - it doesn't need to be photoshop just about any image editing software will let you do this...

NB Its also possible to stretch an image to fit the papers dimensions, without any cropping, but this will introduce distortions so is usually a poor choice.

One way around this is to create a single-page document in a graphics program. A4 in this case.
Then you place your image where you want it and use the graphic software to adjust size, cropping and so on. You can even add a title if you want.
If you are using an Epson printer, you might find that Epson Print Layout helps. It's free software available from: https://www.epson.co.uk/en_GB/apps-software/epson-print-layout

The negative has to have the same aspect ratio as the 8x10 to fit it exactly (congruent). So for example, a 4x5 negative would fit 8x10 as both are .8 (4/5=.8 8/10=.8). Any other format will leave borders.

Alan is right.
On the other hand, a 5x4 image isn’t exactly five by four inches and a 10x8 isn’t exactly ten by eight inches. The film holders crop the edges, but there is variation between brands and a 10x8 holder isn’t a simply scaled-up 5x4. Sacrifices will have to be made and a small amount of edge detail will vanish.
All this assumes that you have a 5x4 or 10x8 negative in the first place. You don’t actually specify. Any other format won’t fit unless it’s (say) 20x16. In which case, why?
Does your specific printer support borderless printing? It has to be selected in the print dialogue.

I’ve just re-read this conversation. Inkjet printers don’t use 10x8 paper; they use A-series sizes. (The US has its own eccentric system.) It will be impossible to fit a 10x8/5x4 image exactly.
If you really do need a 10x8” print (and why not?) the answer is to print to 8” wide and trim off the excess paper all round. A4 in inches is 8.3x11.7, so this should be quite easy.
