Easy way to use Instax Wide in a 5x4 film holder

I recently invested in some 3D printed adapters to hold Instax Wide film inside a regular 5x4 film holder. They work perfectly.

I'm sure they could be copied fairly easily but I wanted to support innovation. We need more people making things like this.

Here's a video where I found out about them. The video mentions other things but I've set a time stamp that shows the adapters.


Here's a shot from yesterday using one of these adapters in a homemade 5x4 camera (not made by me), Schneider 75/8 lens. Film developed in a LomoGraflok back.

I to saw Ari's video on this subject, I thought about making and printing some, but after some thought, It was a lot of messing around when you have the lomograflock back to do this anyway. Its a bit of a fiddle to use with the focusing adapter, but becomes second nature when you have shot a few packs.

The main problem I've found with using the Lomograflok spacer is it strains the springs on the ground glass holder of whichever camera you're using. Depending on the design you can over stress the springs. You are also limited to using it with cameras which have a Graflok back. I don't know how well Instax chemicals work in cold temperatures, using the 3D printed inserts allow you develop the prints indoors in the warm . I know from experience the peel apart Fuji FP instant film chemicals don't like cold temperatures.

Nas I have shot a few instax wide in very cold conditions, I just put them in my inside pocket or inside my jacket, they come out fine. I know what you mean with the focus spacer, on my Intrepid 4x5 its a tight fit with the spring's, but with my Rittrek and my MPP Micro 4x5's it fits in ok.

The problem might be with springs that are not made of metal. The plastic springs on my old Intrepid and Snapshot definitely weakened over time and being stretched like this is a problem.
