Forum Host/Server Move

Thanks for that. It wasn't until I edited the hosts file that it picked up the site by domain name. I then flushed the cache as suggested and bingo, we have contact!

Out of interest, I then removed the domain from the hosts file and, lo and behold, I couldn't reach the site. So, I reinstated the entry and will leave it like that for a while, returning to remove from the hosts file from time to time to see if things change.

I might be a world class genius at designing and writing software but I have never really gotten to grips with the undergirding of websites, etc. I really need to update my own, but lack the wherewithal needed to design them.

Using the host file just means it’s using your Mac as a dns lookup. Sounds to me that your isp has not fully propagated yet .

You always comment out that line with # in a few days to see if your isp has caught up

I'm also on satellite broadband as French rural landline connections around here are only around 1 Mb/s. So, it's going through their servers as well

That's just what I did :)

I was browsing photography forums, as you do and came across this, from somebody called Ian Barber:

First off, if this post is contravening any rules then please can someone remove it and accept my apologies.

It appears that although the http://www.lf-photo.org.uk/forum/ is still online, there does not appear to be any activity for reasons unknown. Even the Administrators are not responding to any of my emails or private messages.

It has been said to me in the past that large format photography in the UK is thin compared to say the USA and Canada, reasons for this may because of the physical size of these countries compared to the UK I don't know.

I have been thinking about setting up a UK Large Format forum for sometime to try and bring UK users closer together and also offer a place where they can buy and sell gear to each other.

Earlier today, I spent a few hours setting up a new forum and registering a new domain name to see how it progresses.

For anyone who maybe interested in the new forum I have setup, the url is http://www.5x4.co.uk"

It's certainly progressed. A great success. Thank you Ian.
