    Afternoon all

    I've been shooting large format for 6-7 years, mainly colour E6 but also b&w. Mainly develop everything myself and scan on an Imacon.

    Currently using a 5x4" Chamonix camera, lenses from 65mm to 300mm. I also shoot 6x17 and 6x12 backs occasionally, and use digital/35mm/120 film for other work, family stuff etc. It's all good! Main interests are landscape and travel. Website here. Twitter here.

    It's great, the one I have is a Precision II (functionally a III with the correct software). Main issue is you need a SCSI enabled machine to run. I manged to pick up old mac G4 and G5s for free. Runs sweet now.

    I have often seen these used at great prices and think I might one day buy one mainly for 4x5, for all other formats I have a Nikon 9000ed which does an excellent job for that.

    At the moment I use an Epson v800 for my 4x5 negs, it does a half decent job but is lacking in picking up micro detail and sharpness, does your Imacon need regular calibration or is it pretty much service free ?

    I've had mine two years now, bought from the widow of a pro photographer. I've never had it serviced or anything. I think they are actually pretty robust, a lot of the wearable parts like bulbs and belts are user replaceable and are commonly available non-proprietory parts. There's also a lot PDF info available online about trouble shooting, and there's a Yahoo group that is also a good resource, run by a guy who was the USA rep for Imacon who knows these scanners inside out.
