Wista DXIII Sharpness

In the meantime I have been looking at various images on here taken using Fomapan films and they are perfectly sharp unless of course they have been software sharpened after scanning.

Which they should be, to some extent at least.

I don't understand the first question, unless you're referring to making digital negatives from a scanned primary negative. But, yes, scanning (or digitising in any shape or form) does soften the image, requiring sharpening at a later stage. How much etc. is going to depend on the scanner; but that's a different kettle of fish.

Sorry Stephen, I was referring to the darkroom process of making a positive mask on film then having to bind it in register with the original negative to form the sandwich for the darkroom version of unsharp masking. Not as easy as letting software handle the process.
Afraid I am not interested in scanning negatives or digital printing.
